SBYSF Practices Cancelled (12/12 - 12/15)

Team SB,

We are very sorry to announce that all SBYSF practices will be cancelled until further notice.

This includes Saturday's Hot Chocolate.

We are unclear at the moment about the SBYSF Winter Series on Sunday.  For the moment, consider this event as still running.

With SB Unified School District closed, SBYC closed through Wednesday, and continually decreasing air quality, we will suspend classes until further notice.

We hope everyone stays safe in this tough time for the SB community.

DPHS Finishes 2nd/64 @ PCISA Anteater Regatta

Over Veteran's Day Weekend, SBYSF with Teams: Dos Pubelos High and Santa Barbara High headed down to the PCISA Anteater Regatta.  This event marks the second high school sailing regatta of the 2017-2018 year.

In light and shifty conditions, DPHS matched their 2nd place finish from the PCISA Sea Otter (1st high school regatta)!

DPHS will enter the New Year ranked 2nd in the Pacific Coast!

We are looking forward to a great season and a bright future.

SBHS Sailor, Caden Scheiblauer finishes 6th @ ISSA Singlehanded Nationals!

We are extending a big congratulations to Team SBYSF and SBHS Sailing Team Member, Caden Scheiblauer for placing 6th/18 at the High School Singlehanded Nationals!

The Singlehanded Nationals, commonly known as the Cressy Trophy took place in St. Petersburg, FL over Halloween Weekend.  18 of the top Laser sailors in the country qualified to represent their schools, home clubs, and themselves.

We were greeted to an abnormal weather pattern in St. Petes.  The tail end of a tropical depression passed through on day one of racing.  This brought a dying Easterly wind and rain on Saturday morning.  Race committee managed two races before the wind called it quits.  Sailors were sent back to shore to await further announcements.  At 1500, R/C called the day sighting a great forecast for day 2.

Day 2 saw a spot on forecast as a cold front wrapped in from the West.  Sailors were greeted to 18-23 knots at 0900, building to 25-32 knots by 1400!  R/C did a phenomenal job of sailing 11 races over 8 hours!

SBYSF Sailor Caden Scheiblauer Qualifies for High School Singlehanded Nationals!

This past weekend, 9/23-9/24 the US Sailing Center Long Beach hosted the PCISA Singlehanded Pacific Coast Championship.  This regatta is the PCISA qualifying event for the Cressy Nationals.  The top 3 boats qualify for the Nationals

Congrats to SBYSF sailor and SBHS  Sailing Team member Caden Scheiblauer for placing second at the PCISA Singlehanded Pacific Coast Championship!

For the third year in a row, Caden will represent SBYSF at the ISSA Cressy (Singlehanded) National Championship! This year’s Cressy will take place in St. Petersburg, FL.

Caden displayed great prowess on day two of the event to leap from fifth to second in the standings.

Also a huge shout out to SBYSF sailor Payne Donaldson, who placed 8th overall at the event!

Team SBYSF Wins Opti PCCs!

In a hard fought battle over two days of racing, SBYSF Team-rider, Ryan Satterberg won the Opti Class Pacific Coast Championship!

The PCCs hosted by San Francisco YC and raced on the Berkley Circle, boasted classic SF sailing conditions.  Each day started with a dense fog cover rolling away to 18-25 knots.  Current was a 4.5 ft flood, making starting and tactics difficult.

Our team as a whole had an excellent performance including:

5 sailors in the top 10!

(Oliver Stokke, 6th) (Zoey Ziskind, 7th) (Richard Rychlik Jr., 8th) (Liam Andresen, 10th)

Zoey Ziskind also took home top women's skipper!  And Crue Ziskind won the White Fleet

Official Press Release

Team SBYSF takes on the Opti Heavy Weather Regatta!

This past weekend, our Opti Team took on the Opti Heavy Weather Regatta in SF.  Typically known for the big breeze and massive tidal swings, "the City Front", brought some bizarre conditions.  With wind under 16 knots and an average of 2.5 knots of max flood, the conditions were tricky to say the least.

Day one:

With a 5.6 foot flood tide forecasted the sailors found themselves working at 100% just to stay at the start line!   Flood relief was found by "short-tacking" the shore underneath St.Francis YC.  Breeze peaked at a mere 14 knots and three races were accomplished.

Day two:

Light air was forecasted as a massive heat wave hit the East Bay.  We sent it out to the water to find >10 knots and the beginning of a huge flood tide.  At the first start signal, the Opti hull speed was unable to match the current velocity.  Thus, sailors found themselves giving max effort only to go backwards!  Race committee called the race quits and we were sent to shore.  After waiting two hours for the flood to decrease, we were sent back out for two races.

Day three:

Meant to be the warmest day of the event with high temps in Stockton reaching 105.  Sailors were greeted with 13-16 knots of wind and slightly less tide.  Three races were completed to wrap up the event!

Team SBYSF finished well!  Ryan Satterberg finished in a close 2nd for the event but earned the title of overall Harken Series Champion!  Liam Andresen sailed a solid regatta to finish 5th/60 boats.  Also in the top 10 were: Blake Behrens 8th/60 and Oliver Stokke 10th/60.  Crue Ziskind also had a strong performance placing 2nd in White Fleet
